Product Overview

Vertical Bitumen Tanks are industrial storage tanks used to store and heat paving-grade bitumen for asphalt mixing plants, road construction projects and bitumen terminals. Tank capacity, heating configuration, insulation and discharge arrangements can be selected according to storage demand, site conditions and the required operating temperature.

Space-Efficient Layout

The vertical configuration can reduce the tank footprint compared with some horizontal storage arrangements. Actual space requirements depend on tank dimensions, foundation design and site layout.

Controlled Bitumen Heating

Thermal oil, electric heating or other project-specific heating arrangements can be selected according to the bitumen grade, target temperature and available site utilities.

Insulated Tank Construction

Thermal insulation and external cladding can be specified to suit the local climate, heat-loss requirements and installation environment.

Configured Material Discharge

Bottom outlets, transfer pumps, valves and heated piping can be arranged according to the required discharge flow and downstream equipment.

Tank Configurations & Selection

01/

Storage Capacity
Select tank capacity based on daily bitumen consumption, delivery frequency, required reserve stock and replenishment schedule. Usable operating volume should be distinguished from total geometric capacity.

02/

Access & Maintenance: Ladders, platforms, inspection openings and maintenance access can be specified according to the installation layout and applicable safety requirements.

03/

Heating System Options
Thermal Oil Heating: Indirect heating through heating coils, with the heating duty and coil arrangement determined by the required temperature profile and bitumen properties.
Electric Heating: Suitable where the available electrical supply, heating load and operating requirements support the proposed configuration.
Steam or Other Heating Arrangements: Available for evaluation where compatible with the project design and site utilities.

04/

Insulation & Temperature Control
Insulation: Rock wool or another specified insulation material, with thickness selected according to ambient temperature and heat-loss requirements.
External Cladding: Aluminum, galvanized steel or coated steel, subject to the project specification.
Temperature Monitoring: Temperature sensors, digital indicators and high- or low-temperature alarms can be included according to the control requirements.

Heating, Insulation & Discharge Design

Heating Duty Calculation

Heating requirements depend on the bitumen mass, initial temperature, target temperature, required heating time, heat losses and heating medium. The heating system should be sized using these project conditions rather than tank capacity alone.

Temperature Management

Sensor locations, control ranges and alarm settings should reflect the selected bitumen grade and operating procedure. Heating and circulation requirements for polymer-modified bitumen must be confirmed for the specific formulation.

Heat-Loss Control

Insulation thickness and external cladding are selected according to ambient conditions, heat-loss targets and site requirements. Actual energy consumption depends on the tank design, operating schedule, heating system and environmental conditions.

Discharge & Transfer

Outlet geometry, pump capacity, valve selection and piping arrangements should be matched to the required flow rate and bitumen temperature. Pipe and valve heating or insulation can be specified where necessary to maintain transfer conditions.

Manufacturing & Quality Control

Material Verification
Steel grade, plate thickness and material documentation are checked against the approved bill of materials and project requirements. Material certificates and traceability records can be supplied where included in the agreed scope.
Welding & Fabrication
Welding procedures, welder qualifications and inspection requirements are established according to the applicable project specifications and approved fabrication documents.
Dimensional & Visual Inspection
Tank dimensions, nozzle positions, connections, accessories and surface condition are checked against approved drawings and inspection criteria.
Weld Inspection & Testing
Non-destructive testing and leak or integrity testing are performed where required by the approved design, applicable standards and inspection plan. Third-party inspection can be arranged by agreement.
Documentation
Available handover documents may include material certificates, inspection records, applicable test reports, equipment drawings and operation and maintenance instructions, as agreed in the purchase specification.

Vertical Bitumen Tank
Applications & System Integration

Asphalt Mixing Plants

Configured to supply paving-grade bitumen to asphalt production systems according to the required storage volume, heating conditions and transfer rate.

Road Construction Projects

Suitable for project-specific bitumen storage and heating arrangements where on-site storage is required.

Bitumen Storage Terminals

Can be configured with transfer pumps, manifold piping, loading connections and monitoring systems according to terminal operating requirements.

Integration Requirements

Before equipment selection, confirm the available heating utilities, electrical supply, pipe routing, foundation loads, required transfer rate and compatibility with existing PLC or DCS controls. Interfaces such as 4–20 mA or Modbus should be specified where required.

Polymer-Modified Bitumen (PMB)

PMB storage requires confirmation of the material grade, operating temperature, circulation requirements and heating arrangement to help avoid unsuitable thermal exposure or material degradation.

Bitumen Emulsions

Emulsion storage requires a separately specified configuration based on the emulsion formulation and temperature requirements. High-temperature bitumen storage conditions should not be applied automatically to emulsions.
