Heating Systems & Temperature Control
Thermal Oil Heating
Indirect Heating: Thermal oil circulates through internal heating coils to transfer heat to the stored bitumen.
Coil Specification: Pipe material, coil layout, heating surface area and design temperature are selected according to the heating system and operating requirements.
Temperature Management: Heating controls and temperature sensors can be specified to monitor operating conditions and help prevent unintended overheating.
Electric Heating
Electric Heating Elements: Heating elements can be selected according to the required heating duty and available electrical supply.
Dry-Well Configuration: Dry-well elements may be specified where the design allows inspection or replacement without draining the tank.
Electrical Controls: Power distribution, temperature regulation, over-temperature protection and electrical safety devices are defined according to the project design.
Heating System Selection
The appropriate heating method depends on the required operating temperature, initial bitumen temperature, heating-up time, ambient conditions, tank capacity and available utilities. Heating capacity should be calculated from the actual project requirements rather than selected by tank volume alone.

Asphalt Mixing Plants
Storage tanks supply heated bitumen to asphalt production systems. Tank capacity and heating duty should be coordinated with plant output, binder consumption, delivery schedules and the required operating temperature.
Bitumen Terminals & Storage Yards
Larger storage configurations can be specified for bulk bitumen receiving, storage and transfer. Tank arrangement, inlet and outlet connections, pump interfaces and site infrastructure should be reviewed together.
Polymer-Modified Bitumen (PMB)
For SBS-modified and other polymer-modified binders, agitation, circulation and temperature management may be required to control storage conditions. The appropriate arrangement depends on the binder formulation, storage duration and supplier's processing recommendations.
Project-Specific Configurations
Insulation & Cladding: Specified according to ambient conditions, temperature requirements and outdoor exposure.
Heating & Piping: Coil arrangements, heated connections and transfer-line provisions can be defined in the engineering drawings.
Instrumentation: Level, temperature, alarm and control requirements can be matched to the plant's operating system.
Access & Maintenance: Manholes, inspection openings, ladders, platforms and lifting provisions can be included where required by the design.

Manufacturing Capabilities & Quality Control
Manufacturing and inspection requirements should be defined for the selected tank configuration and agreed before production.
Material Verification
Material Identification: Steel grades are checked against the approved material specification.
Material Certificates: Mill Test Certificates and traceability records can be supplied according to the purchase order and inspection plan.
Incoming Inspection: Material dimensions, identification and relevant documentation are checked before fabrication.
Fabrication & Welding
Tank Fabrication: Plate cutting, forming, fit-up and welding follow the approved manufacturing drawings and welding procedures.
Weld Inspection: Visual inspection and specified non-destructive testing are performed according to the applicable design code and inspection plan.
Dimensional Verification: Critical dimensions, nozzle locations and assembly interfaces are checked against approved drawings.
Heating System & Instrumentation Inspection
Coil Testing: Heating coils are pressure-tested according to the approved test procedure and applicable design requirements.
Instrumentation Checks: Sensor ranges, electrical connections and control interfaces are verified according to the specified configuration.
Final Inspection: Completed equipment is inspected against the agreed technical specification and acceptance criteria.
Surface Protection & Documentation
Surface Preparation: The preparation grade is specified according to the coating system and service environment.
Protective Coating: Primer, topcoat, dry-film thickness and curing requirements are defined in the coating specification.
Quality Records: Inspection reports, material certificates and other agreed manufacturing documents can be supplied with the equipment.
Applicable certifications, welding qualifications, NDT methods, acceptance criteria and third-party inspection arrangements must be confirmed for each project. Standards such as ISO 9001, EN 10204, ISO 5817 and ASME BPVC Section VIII should only be referenced where their actual scope and applicability have been verified.
Transport, Installation & System Integration
Transport Planning
Shipment Assessment: Transport arrangements are determined from the completed tank's external dimensions, weight, lifting points and packaging requirements.
Container or Flat-Rack Options: Standard container, flat-rack, breakbulk or modular shipment may be considered after checking actual transport dimensions and carrier restrictions.
Site Assembly: Where modular construction is proposed, field joints, assembly procedures, lifting requirements and site inspection responsibilities must be agreed in advance.
Plant Control Integration
Signal Interfaces: Potential interfaces include 4–20 mA signals, PT100 temperature inputs and dry-contact alarms, subject to the selected instruments and control architecture.
Communication Protocols: Modbus RTU, Profibus or other protocols can be considered only when supported by the specified PLC, communication modules and connected equipment.
Compatibility Review: Existing plant drawings, I/O lists, PLC details and communication requirements should be reviewed before confirming integration.
Piping & Transfer Connections
Connection Standards: Flange dimensions, nominal sizes, pressure ratings and connection standards are specified according to the project.
Heated Transfer Lines: Thermal insulation, heat tracing or thermal-oil jacketing can be evaluated where needed to maintain the required bitumen transfer temperature.
Pump Interface: Pump capacity, flow rate, viscosity, pipe routing and operating temperature should be coordinated with the tank design.
