Its standardized operating workflow is relatively simple and consists of five core stages: pre‑construction preparation, reagent dilution, emulsification production, on‑site construction, and post‑construction curing. It is suitable for numerous scenarios including pavement micro‑surfacing, slurry seals, bond‑coat and prime‑coat installation, and pavement repair. Detailed operational specifications are outlined below. First, complete pre‑construction preparation, covering equipment checks and base‑surface treatment. Inspect the sealing integrity and operational status of emulsifiers, spray trucks, and mixing equipment, and clear residual old materials and impurities inside equipment to avoid compromised emulsifying performance. Thoroughly sweep construction pavements to eliminate dust, gravel, oil contamination, and standing water. Repair potholes in advance to ensure flat, dry, clean pavements free of loose debris. Halt construction during low‑temperature or rainy weather.
Next comes the dilution and preparation of Emulsified Asphalt Liquid, the critical step for reliable emulsification quality. Mix Emulsified Asphalt Liquid with clean fresh water following project formula ratios. Typical dilution ratios range from 1:20 to 1:50 and may be adjusted according to reagent grade and construction scenarios. Keep dilution‑water temperature strictly between 40‑60 ℃. Warm water accelerates reagent dissolution and prevents caking in cold conditions or performance degradation under excessive heat. Pour warm water into the mixing tank, slowly add Emulsified Asphalt Liquid, and stir at a constant speed for 3‑5 minutes until the reagent dissolves completely, yielding a homogeneous, transparent aqueous solution free of particles or delamination. Never pour undiluted stock directly into asphalt; otherwise uneven emulsification, caking, and phase separation will occur.
Then produce emulsified asphalt. Feed the prepared aqueous Emulsified Asphalt Liquid solution and base asphalt heated to 120‑140 ℃ synchronously into the asphalt emulsifier. Through equipment‑driven high‑speed shearing, grinding, and agitation, asphalt disperses evenly within the aqueous phase to form a stable oil‑in‑water emulsified asphalt. Continuously monitor emulsion quality during production. Qualified emulsified asphalt features uniform colour, good fluidity, and no sediment or surface skinning. Allow short‑term settling after production instead of immediate application to guarantee stability.
Three mainstream construction methods serve different engineering requirements. Spraying applies to pavement bond‑coat and prime‑coat work. Operate spray trucks to apply emulsified asphalt evenly with consistent film thickness, avoiding missed spraying or material accumulation. Mixing is primarily used for slurry‑seal and mixture batching. Combine emulsified asphalt evenly with aggregate, mineral powder, and water to create slurry mixtures. Paving is used for thin‑layer pavement repair and micro‑surfacing. Pave, level, and compact mixtures immediately after batching. All construction work proceeds at ambient temperature without heating, delivering superior operational efficiency.
Proceed with post‑construction curing and maturing. Close traffic immediately after construction, barring vehicles and pedestrian access. Under ambient conditions, emulsified asphalt gradually demulsifies, releases water, and solidifies. Curing takes 2‑4 hours in summer and 6‑12 hours in cold winter environments. Restore traffic only once water has fully evaporated, asphalt has bonded and cured, and surfaces are dry and non‑tacky. Avoid construction on rainy, windy, frosty, or cold days. Prevent rain‑water washing within 24 hours after construction to safeguard finished quality.
